Case Studies - Extensions and Alterations

Bartlett Road, Shaw

This part single and part two storey extension was completed in two phases, separated by about 18 months. Our client, an architect and therefore sure about the design and the finish he wanted to achieve, created a bedroom space with dressing/en-suite at first floor level, with a new morning room below. The feature of this project was the difficult access; however an excellent product was created by sourcing materials identical to those from which the existing house was built, including "Accrington" type facing bricks and clay "Rosemary" roof tiles

Heatherside, Stalybridge

This single storey extension creating a dining room and morning room was designed to have clean lines and the maximum amount of light. Difficult access along a narrow path, broken only by a set of concrete steps was potentially a problem; however by forming a temporary ramp we were able track a small excavator round the back to excavate the foundations. The oversized window overlooking the garden required a heavy duty structural beam above, and the raised block paved area provided an outdoor eating space complete with external lighting, for the family to enjoy during the summer months.

Derwent Drive, Littleborough

As with so many domestic projects which are built on the back of houses, access is a problem. This project had more than twenty steps down into the back garden, and the whole foundation had to be dug out by hand, and the spoil carried up to the road in buckets. This project, on three floors, featured a spiral stair coming in from the new conservatory, through the games room and to the upper floor. A large raised timber deck, also designed and installed by Turnstone Developments now provides a large outdoor space for socialising and quiet reflection.
