Case Studies - Barn Conversions

Knowl Farm, Littleborough

This project involved the creation of four properties out of two existing properties, including the original farm house, one three bedroom house, a one bedroom (2 – storey) studio house and a barn conversion. In addition we constructed a natural stone four car garage with remote control doors.
Special features of this project included a water treatment plant instead of a traditional septic tank, and the co-ordination of new mains services to each individual property, including gas, water, electric and telephone.
The four properties were converted for sale by a developer, and due to their popularity they were all sold prior to the site being completed.

Humber Farm, Littleborough

This conversion presented us with the added difficulty of working on a building of special architectural and historical interest, which gave it a Grade 2 listed status. We were closely involved with the conservation officer from the local authority from day one, and we also liaised with specialists monitoring the presence of bats.
Under the watchful eye of the planners and conservation officer, this former barn was restored using reclaimed and original materials, with the help of traditional natural lime mortars. The living space we created including games room, lounge, study and dining area, makes this a very luxurious family home.

Nick Road Farm, Whitworth

This project was our very first barn conversion, and the first major construction project undertaken by the company. It featured natural coursed stone and a Yorkshire grey stone roof, yet we were able to achieve a very modern interior whilst preserving many original features.
Our ability to source reclaimed materials for this project contributed to its’ success, and we employed specialist masons and roofers to ensure that the exterior was sympathetic to those buildings in the immediate vicinity.

Bent House Farm, Littleborough

This grade two listed barn was badly derelict when we acquired it, and required very careful attention to make it safe before work commenced. We worked very closely with the conservation officer and planner in putting together a design that was sympathetic to previously converted buildings in the area, and managed to achieve a high quality finish, both inside and out.
